These Are a Few of My Favorite Things...You Don't Have to Do it All to Do it!

I'm going to let you in on a little secret...90% of my clients could be considered middle class individuals who live in homes with less than 3,000 square feet who just want a face lift, not a complete overhaul.  I have people come into our showroom all the time who don't get halfway into telling me about what they're hoping to do in their homes before they lower their volume and say "Now, I just want you to know that I'm not like most of your clients.  I have a few things I want to keep because I really like them."

Believe it or not, a good designer is going to ask you what your favorite things are.  She'll even get excited about making those favorites the shining stars in your space.

Many times, people get caught up in how many things need to be done to get their homes to look the way they've always dreamed they would.  Redecorating has a domino effect that can be paralyzing.  The truth is, you don't have to do it all to do it.

I have a client who came in initally because she was embarrassed of her home.  She told me she hadn't had anyone but family in her home for eight years and she wanted desperately to open her door and let people in, even if they were just popping by to borrow a cup of sugar.  She was quick to explain that she couldn't change the whole house at once and wondered if she should just wait til she could.

I explained that what she needed was a cohesive plan for the whole house that could be phased out to be done over her timeline as her pocketbook would allow.  That way, if we started with her foyer, her kitchen would have a similar look and feel when we made it there a year later.  She breathed a huge sigh of relief, and we got to work making her home a place she could be proud of.

Maybe you need a cohesive plan to move towards too.  So, what's on your to do list?
