Cozying Up Your Home for Fall

Is there anything better than that first chilly day that hints at fall?  Fall is a great time to add some cozy details that hint at a coming winter to your home.  This time of year, you're absolutely inundated with the typical mums, pumpkins and gourds of every shape and size, and tacky Halloween decorations.  What's a classy homeowner like yourself to do?  Here's a few thoughts for stylish ways to take the chill off this fall:
  • White pumpkins and gourds.  Even in a modern interior, a white pumpkin feels classic and seasonally appropriate.  How about a collection of white gourds in a tall cylindrical vessel?

  • Fall folliage.  This is the time of year to swap your spring/summer flowers for tastes of fall.  How about crab apple or aspen branches in a galvanized vase?  Or, think beyond flowers and try braeburn apples or bosc pears.
  • Texture.  Autumn brings a tremendous amount of texture to nature this time of year.  Think about the sensory experiences of a fall day: the crunch of leaves underfoot, the rustle of drying grasses in the wind, the vivid colors of the leaves before they fall from the trees.  Add texture with tweedy chenilles or fur throws.
This fun, light weight fabric by Massoud is an elegant nubby silk with a contrasting jute overlay.  This would make stunning under curtains in your dining room!

This fabric is the most spectacular combination of neutrals, grays, golds, and browns in an incredibly soft, high texture chenille by Massoud.  We're so obsessed with it, we're wearing it out!

This rich velvet by Lexington has a unique wood grain texture to it.  What a great way to add texture and softness--just by switching out a throw pillow!

  • Color.  Fall has a spectacular palette worth trying out in your home.  Add rich caramels, pralines, and chocolates to your neutral palette.  Try out a pumpkin orange or pick up on the colors of fall produce.  Paint is inexpensive and easy to change (yes, even seasonally!), so put a couple of coats of one of these colors on an accent wall in your dining room so you can enjoy it when you have a houseful for thanksgiving!  (Clockwise from upper left: Sherwin Williams' 6390 Bosc Pear, 7709 Copper Pot, 7740 Messenger Bag, 2837 Aurora Brown.)

  • Do away with the hum-drum.  Forgo the over done collection of fall accessories found everywhere this time of year in favor of unique items that will have people wishing they could cozy up in your home instead of theirs!  Try a couple of these from our unique accessory lines:
